Welcome to the University of Nottingham Karate club!

https://su.nottingham.ac.uk/activities/view/karate

Whether you're an experienced competition fighter or have never set foot in a dojo before we have something to offer! The club teaches primarily Shotokan karate and our curriculum reflects this, however we welcome karateka from all backgrounds and in reality we form a "melting pot" of different practitioners.

Training

We hold several classes a week:
Tuesdays: 8:30pm-10:30pm  Dojo, David Ross Sports Village, University Park
Thursday: 8pm-10pm  Dojo, David Ross Sports Village, University Park
Saturday: 2pm-4pm  Dojo, David Ross Sports Village, University Park
Sunday: 7:30pm-9:30pm  Dojo, David Ross Sports Village, University Park

Each class focuses on a different areas:

Tuesdays: Focus on competition karate. Competition karate is split into two; Kata and Kumite. Kumite is the focus of Tuesdays session, this is the fightin side of competition karate and we are lucky enough to have a dedicated sensei to help with preparation for competitions and higher belt gradings.

Thursdays: Cover the more traditional ‘core’ of Karate with emphasis on basic drills and Kata, a series of preset moves against imaginary opponents. The applications of kata are also studied regularly and we believe this is an important part of our training.

Saturdays and Sundays: Are devoted to tournament training, and are run by our Captains. We welcome anyone who wants to compete, whether novice or experienced competitor and the club attends a variety of competitions throughout the year, culminating in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) tournament held in early spring. The club competes in both kata and kumite and wins medals in both consistantly. We also compete in Varsity against Nottingham Trent, on the newly introduced Super Wednesdays.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch with any of our committee members. Look out for our stall at fresher's fair, we hope to see you training with us soon!
